He completed both a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

He is an accomplished clinical researcher and author of numerous articles and chapters for professional medical publications.

He served as the Medical Director for two different clinics including the San Francisco Center for Reproductive Medicine.

Under Dr. Herbert's stewardship, SFCRM became a leading center for infertility care and assisted reproductive technology services.

Dr. Herbert has repeatedly been singled out by his peers in two independent national surveys "Best Doctors in the Bay Area" by San Francisco Magazine and Best Doctors, the results of surveys by fellow physicians.

Dr. Herbert is a fourth-generation physician who graduated from the University of Florida as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

Dr. Herbert is Board Certified by The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

Dr. Herbert is the president of Pacific Fertility Center and he continues to be involved with reproductive research maintaining an active interest in the ethical dilemmas confronting reproductive technologists in the 21st century.

Dr. Herbert served as 2002-3 President of the Society For Humanism in Medicine and spearheaded their CME program "The Human Embryo: Issues Surrounding the Beginnings of Life."

They, together with their partners, purchased and reorganized Pacific Fertility Center in November of 1999.

His leadership in the community was recognized in 1996 when he was appointed Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at California Pacific Medical Center.

In 1990 Dr. Herbert came to San Francisco clinic and began delivering private practice ART care.

Dr. Herbert joined the Vanderbilt teaching faculty upon completion of his fellowship and served as the Director of the Reproductive Endocrinology Division from 1989-90.

In 1982 Dr. Herbert was instrumental in the development of one of the first assisted reproductive technology programs in the United States at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
